has been an incredibly busy year-and-a-half! Paul began doing contract
work for the Howard
University Department of Music in February 2009, and was asked to
become Staff Technician beginning with the Fall Semester
2009. This position presents many challenges unique to institutional work
and also provides many rewarding experiences as part of the HU community.

a concert and performance technician. He tuned for the 2009 and 2010 DC
Jazz Festivals, for the 2010 Washington Internationsl Piano Arts Council
Competition at the Mexican Cultural Institute, and NPR Studio 4A for appearances
by jazz pianist Eric Lewis (ELEW) and R&B singer/songwriter
also maintains the pianos at jazz clubs HR 57 and Bohemian Caverns, tuning
for such artists as Ron Carter f/Mulgrew Miller, Cyrus Chestnut, George
Colligan, Roberta Flack, Chuchito Valdes, Lous Hayes f/Larry Willis, and
many, many others.

Yamaha Corporate Artists Division asked him to tune for Josh Grobin
and Herbie Hancock at the Martin Luther King Library
on January 19th, and for the Live Television Broadcast of the Neighborhood
Ball held at the Washington Convention Center on January 20th.
That piano was used by Shakira, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys and
Duke Ellington Jazz Festival provided music for the small dinner for family
and friends hosted by then President-Elect and Mrs. Obama
on Sunday, January 18th, and Paul was asked to tune the Blair
Hamlin Model A piano! Really a very special evening, since Paul and the
band were invited to stay and enjoy dinner with the other guests!
This past weekend, Paul tuned for an appearance by saxophonist Kenny G
at The Twentieth and Grand Finale Best Buddies Ball, Honoring Her Highness
Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Missned, at the residence of Sargent and
Eunice Kennedy Shriver in Potomac, Maryland.
For the second year in a row, Paul was honored to serve as the piano technician
for Washington, DC's annual Duke
Ellington Jazz Festival, tuning at venues like the Lincoln and Sylvan
Theaters, THEARC, and Cohen Auditorium at the Voice of America for such
world renowned pianists as McCoy Tyner and Geoffrey Keezer, as well as
for the many groups appearing at the Festival, incuding Nasar Abadey,
Dee Dee Bridgewater, Sharón
Duke Ellington Ochestra, La
Timbistica, Na'Rimba, Paquito D'Rivera, Christian McBride, and many others.
tuned for an appearance by Roberta Flack for the Congressional Black Caucus
at the Reagan International Trade Building.

the end of June, Paul attended the 51st Annual Piano Technicians Guild
Convention and Technical Institute in Anaheim, CA. While there, he became
a Registered Piano Technician (RPT) Member of the Guild. Registered Piano
Technicians have passed a rigorous set of written, technical and tuning
examinations which test their knowledge of piano history, design, construction
and tuning theory as well as applied tuning, repair and regulation skills.
